Gland Service Systems

Robday’s Gland Service Systems service helps mining and slurry pumping sites regulate gland water flow and pressure more accurately, protecting stuffing boxes from over-pressurisation and poor gland service conditions. The system is designed around the GSR valve, which automatically regulates gland service as slurry pump conditions change.

The GSR valve combines a self-regulating flow control device and a self-regulating pressure control device. It helps ensure that the stuffing box receives the required gland service flow, while maintaining approximately 100 kPa (1 Bar) above the slurry pump discharge pressure during operation.

Where Gland Service Systems deliver the most value

  • Protecting stuffing boxes from over-pressurisation.
  • Maintaining correct gland service flow during changing pump conditions.
  • Reducing packing wear, repair costs and maintenance pressure.
  • Supporting slurry pump reliability in changing operating sequences.
  • Helping reduce downtime, water usage and energy costs.

How it works

  1. Assess the slurry pump setup, gland service requirements and operating pressure changes
  2. Specify the correct GSR valve setup for the pump and gland service arrangement
  3. Connect the three key ports: incoming gland service, regulated gland service to the stuffing box and slurry discharge pressure reference
  4. Allow the valve to self-regulate gland service pressure and flow as system conditions change

Gland Service Systems FAQs

A Gland Service System helps regulate gland water flow and pressure to the stuffing box of a slurry pump, protecting the pump from incorrect gland service conditions.

The GSR valve automatically regulates gland service flow and pressure based on slurry pump discharge pressure.

Correct regulation helps prevent over-pressurisation, packing damage, water waste and avoidable maintenance.

The brochure states that the stuffing box receives approximately 100 kPa, or 1 Bar, above the slurry pump discharge pressure.

Changes in slurry specific gravity, pump operating order, pump speed through a VSD, maintenance activity or pumping location can all affect system pressure.

The GSR valve connects between the incoming gland service, the stuffing box and the slurry discharge pressure line.

Port A connects to the incoming unregulated gland service, Port B delivers regulated gland service to the stuffing box and Port C connects to the slurry pump discharge pressure.

Yes. By self-regulating gland service as conditions change, it helps protect equipment and reduce maintenance-related downtime.

Yes. The system is specifically designed around slurry pump operation and changing slurry train conditions.
